The project reveals that the Paleozoic island-arc type crust around the Great Serpentine Belt has formed by accretion from Silurian to Early Carboniferous,high-pressure metamorphism from Middle Devonian to Late Carboniferous and subsequent S-type granitoid intrusion in Latest Carboniferous. The results are obtained from radiolarian biostratigraphy,metamorphic petrology, K-Ar dating and re-examination for granite-isochron.This new idea of the Late Carfoniferous orogeny revises essentially an old idea for the New England Orogeny.

研究表明，大蛇形带周围古生代岛弧型地壳是由志留纪至早石炭世的增生作用、中泥盆世至晚石炭世的高压变质作用和晚石炭世的s型花岗岩侵入作用形成的。研究结果来自放射虫生物地层、变质岩石学、K-Ar定年和花岗岩等时线复验。这个关于晚石炭世造山运动的新观点基本上修正了关于新英格兰造山运动的旧观点。
