We plan to collect borehole logging data as part of the ICDP project "The Nam Co Drilling Project, Tibet (NamCore): A one million year sedimentary record from the third pole" and to interpret it together with the participating working groups from other disciplines. Within the framework of this project, borehole geophysical data will be collected at three borehole sites. In a first step, these data will be compiled for the individual sites and then from all locations and tested for similarities and differences. As soon as core data become available, borehole and core data will be combined. We will apply time series analysis and cyclostratigraphy methods to these merged multivariate data sets. Changing sediment properties will be related to changes in past solar irradiance, and from this, a time-depth scale will be derived. In the next step, multivariate statistics will be applied to understand the complexity of the datasets and to get an idea of the intersected lithology by means of cluster analysis. Finally, we will synthesize the information on lithology and depositional age, develop ideas on the drought/precipitation relationship and interpret them in the context of global climate evolution.
