This research has constructed an information retrieval system based on Z39.50. Z39.50 is a standard information retrieval protocol in ANSI and ISO, which defines data structure and data processing between servers and clients. Information retrieval systems based on Z39.50 allow users to connect the other Z39.50 systems in the world, and to share information resources. The present system consists of a client and a server. The client allows users to input words for retrieval in Japanese, and displays Japanese characters. The server consists of control module, protocol module, retrieval engine, and database. The database consists of indices and Japan/MARC records. Japan/MARC records are converted to plain text files which one record corresponds to one file. The number of the records is 1,019,696, which are from 1983 to 1998. Index terms are generated by the "CHASEN" which is a Japanese text processor. Indexing is processed by the "NAMAZU" which is a Japanese text indexer. This research concludes that the system allows users to share information resources on the Internet.

本研究构建了一个基于Z39.50的信息检索系统。Z39.50是ANSI和ISO的标准信息检索协议，它定义了服务器和客户端之间的数据结构和数据处理。基于Z39.50的信息检索系统允许用户连接世界上其他的Z39.50系统，共享信息资源。本系统由客户端和服务器组成。该客户端允许用户输入日语单词进行检索，并显示日语字符。服务器端由控制模块、协议模块、检索引擎和数据库组成。该数据库由索引和日本/MARC记录组成。日本/MARC记录被转换为纯文本文件，其中一个记录对应一个文件。记录数量为1,019,696条，时间为1983-1998年。索引词是由日语文本处理器“Chasen”生成的。索引是由日语文本索引器“namazu”处理的。本研究的结论是，该系统允许用户在互联网上共享信息资源。
