项目摘要

本研究課題は「処分状」固有の役割とその変化から、当時の公家社会における「家」と相続について追究することを目的とするものである。研究期間最終年にあたる本年度は、公家の子息が多く入室した寺院社会の相続に検討を加えた。公家社会の「家」に該当するものが寺院社会では院家であることから、院家の相続に焦点を当て、寺院社会の「家」と相続の在り方の解明を目指した。具体的には鎌倉時代から南北朝時代における醍醐寺報恩院の相続の様相を探り、同院が院家として成立し発展する過程と、醍醐寺座主坊である三宝院と同院との関係を明らかにした。それとともに「処分状」固有の役割を基にし、九条家と報恩院それぞれの相続時に用いられた文書を比較・検討した結果、報恩院の相続では九条家にみられない付法状が重視されたことが判明した。この付法状は「附法嫡弟」に渡され、寺院社会の相続の特徴を示す文書であった。一見すると公家社会と類似した相続を行う寺院社会だが、そこで用いられた文書の特徴に着目することで、寺院社会の特質や公家社会との相違点、両社会における「家」の在り方が詳らかになった。また寺院社会との比較を通じて公家社会の「家」と相続の在り方を一層鮮明に捉えることが可能になり、本研究課題の達成につながった。本研究課題の成果としては、「第５回日本学術振興会育志賞」の受賞が挙げられる。これは博士後期課程で取り組んだ研究「日本中世における相続と「処分状」の研究」に対して授与されたものであるが、当該研究の中心となったのは本研究課題である。そして最終的には「処分状」の原理的役割の追究と、公家社会と寺院社会とにおける相続の研究とを併せて学位論文「日本中世社会における相続と文書 ―「処分状」の役割に着目して― 」としてまとめ、本研究課題の集大成とした。学位論文の内容は、今後学術雑誌への投稿などを通して広く公開することを目指していく。
