本研究では、まず健診に特化したヘルスリテラシー尺度の開発を行う。次に健診結果活用の向上を目指した健診結果報告書について検討する。健診の目的は、その結果が活用されることで果たされる。しかし、生活習慣病予備群に対する保健指導の現場では、対象者の健診結果の理解や活用が十分ではなく、健診におけるヘルスリテラシーの低さを感じることがある。健診結果をどれくらいの人がどの程度活用しているのか、結果の活用が難しい理由はどのあたりにあるのかはほぼ把握されていない。また、それらを測定できるような、健診に特化したヘルスリテラシーを測る尺度はない。尺度開発のために、日本語で開発されたヘルスリテラシー尺度とヘルスリテラシーに関連する文献を収集して、項目の検討を行った。それらを踏まえて、保健指導に携わる保健師、管理栄養士、医師らで、健診におけるヘルスリテラシーについて項目を洗い出す作業を行った（「健診」は特定健診の基本項目に限定した）。ヘルスリテラシーは、健康情報を「入手」「理解」「評価」「活用」する能力であるとの定義を用いて、これらが健診結果の活用においてはどのような事項になるかを検討し、整理して質問項目として起こした。その他、知識や健康観、健診受診歴や既往歴など、健診におけるヘルスリテラシーに影響を及ぼすと考えられる事項を洗い出してまとめ、質問紙案を作成した。質問紙調査に対して、健診実施施設における実施許可と、倫理審査委員会の承認を得た。
