本研究の最初の目的は、メタボリックシンドローム該当者および予備群の者を対象に健康運動教室を実施し、教室の前後に本学付属病院においてMRIを用いた画像をもとに内臓脂肪面積を測定した結果に基づいて、内臓脂肪の減少効果を判定することにある。これをスタートとして、その後は内臓脂肪改善効果に及ぼすライフスタイルの変容の影響、さらには医療費削減などの長期的な経済効果について分析する予定となっている。しかしながら、今年度はコロナウイルス感染対策のため、一般の地域住民が付属病院に入ることが制限されており、研究の開始は困難であった。また，体育館トレーニングルームにおいて実施する予定の健康運動教室についても，体育館の使用ができず教室の開催ができなかった。そのため、研究の開始を１年遅らせることにした。コロナウイルス感染症が５類相当となり、研究を開始できるめどが立ちつつあることから、次年度においては本格的な研究を開始できると考えている。なお、今年度は関連文献の収集、およびその整理を中心に実施した。
