海外では謙虚さを測定する尺度は数多く作成されているが、日本人向け、かつジュニア選手向けの尺度は存在しない。2022年度は、ジュニア選手の謙虚さを測定する尺度を作成するため、信頼性と妥当性のある自己報告式の尺度であるRelational Humility Scale（Davis et al., 2011）を用いて、ジュニア選手を含めた中高生400名を対象としたWeb調査を実施した。調査内容は、翻訳した尺度、精神的健康状態の指標である日本語版WHO-5精神的健康状態表、心理的苦痛の指標であるK-10であった。確認的因子分析の結果、RHSは原版と同じ因子構造であると考えられた。しかしながら、因子間の関係が原版と異なり、尺度としての信頼性を保つことができていないことが示唆された。また、他の変数との関連を検討した結果、同様に原版とは異なる可能性があることが示された。以上の結果から、謙虚さとHumilityには重なる部分があるものの、異なる側面があることが示唆された。その理由として、日本の場合、謙虚さに関連する控えめな態度が求められるのに対して、海外では求められないこと、社会的望ましさの影響が考えられた。そのため、より日本人の慣習にあわせた謙虚さを測定するツールを検討する必要があるといえる。加えて、謙虚さを高める活動として、自然体験活動に注目が集まっている。ジュニア選手を含めた小中学生180名を対象に自然体験活動に関連する謙虚さと精神的健康度との関連を検討した。分析の結果、両変数には関連がみられなかった。その理由として、前述のように文化差があるため、先行研究と異なる結果が得られたと考えられる。
