项目摘要

本研究は、「ウサギの島」として近年有名になったことで、近年観光客が急増した広島県竹原市の大久野島を対象に、オーバーツーリズムなどが生じている観光地の持続可能な利用の在り方を示すことを最終目標としている。大久野島では、観光客の増加に伴い島に生息している野生のアナウサギが急増するという問題が生じている。そこで、大久野島における観光客の増加と副次的に生じたウサギの個体数の増加の影響を明らかにするため、2022年度は、2021年に観光客を対象として行ったアンケート調査の結果をもとに、観光客が持ち込む餌の一人当たりの平均乾燥重量を推定したところ86.5 g/人と計算された。この値に観光客数を乗ずることで、毎年観光客によって持ち込まれる餌の総量（Wfyear）を推定した。持ち込まれていた餌は「ペレット（牧草）」が34%と最も多く，続いて多かったニンジン（25%），キャベツ（24%）が多く、この3種で全体の8割以上を占めていた。Wfyearの影響を明らかにするため、島内のウサギの餌資源の中で最も広い面積を占める芝の成長量と比較するため、島内の芝の生産量（Wgyear）を推定し、それと比較した。芝の生産量は環境省の許可を得て2022年11月より現地で調査を始めているが、坂上ら（2003）の推定値である年間生産量490 g/ m2/year（乾燥重量）（坂上ら，2003）と、2021年のGoogle mapの航空写真から面積測定機能を用いて求めた大久野島の芝の面積1.72×104（m2）と乗算すると、島内の芝の生産量Wgyear は8.4 t/yearと算出された。来島者数の最も多かった2017年に観光客が持ち込んだ餌の量は27 t/yearと推定され，これはWgyearの3.2倍であった。以上のことから観光客による餌の過剰な持ち込みがウサギの増加に強く影響している可能性が示唆された。
