環境に配慮したテキスタイルの生産にあたって、本来なら捨てられるはずの繊維廃棄物を原料に有効活用して、デザインによるアップリサイクリングを実現する。愛知県尾州産地は奈良時代から織物生産が栄えた日本最大の毛織物産地であり、1900年頃から毛織物産業を始め、第二次対戦後から再生毛織物を生産している。尾州産地のリサイクル羊毛（反毛）工場を調査し、原料調達方法や反毛市場についての聞き取りを行なった。また、古着の色ごとの仕分け、古着からボタンやタグなどの付属品を手作業で除く工程、様々な色の繊維をブレンドしたカラーパレットの作成、布をカーディングして綿状に戻す工程を視察した。イタリア、トスカーナ州、プラート産地は、12世紀から中～低品質の羊毛を使った布を生産する「ぼろ切れの都」と呼ばれ、その伝統は第二次世界大戦後に盛んになるLana Cardata（リサイクル羊毛）に受け継がれており、現在は7000社の企業が活動している。リサイクル羊毛工場を調査、Museo del Tessuto（織物博物館）では、歴史的および現代的なテキスタイルの展示を視察した。尾州産地とプラート産地では、リサイクル羊毛の機械、方法、工程はあまり違わなかったものの、カラーパレットが異なった。尾州産地は、白、黒、紺、茶などの色味がないものが多かった。それに対してプラート産地は、原料から大変カラフルで、色相が異なる繊維をブレンドしてカラーパレットを作成していた。上記により、リサイクル羊毛工場が有する技術や素材や状況を把握し、次年度から行うハンドメイドでの織物サンプル作成とデザインワークに必要な知見を得た。
