本研究は、占領期日本において、今日の「特別活動」の起源である「特別教育活動」が成立する一連の過程を、子どもの教科外における自治的・主体的活動を「学校内化」する過程と捉え、この過程と学校内化の機制を分析することを目的とした。研究にあたっては、大きく①特別教育活動成立に際して重要な影響力を持ったアメリカ課外活動論の性格・内容の検討と、②アメリカの影響を加味した特別教育活動成立過程の検討の二観点を設定した。今年度、①については、まずアメリカ課外活動論の端緒として19-20世紀転換期アメリカにおいて革新主義者ウィルソン・ギルが取り組んだ「学校市」（School City）の内容と性格を解明する研究を行い、「学校市」が子どもを学校外の生活から切り離し学校内で自治活動を行わせることで「アメリカ化」する「市民的道徳的訓練」の方法であったことを解明し、学会誌『日本の教育史学』に論文を掲載した。また、「学校市」から1930年頃までのアメリカにおける課外活動論の展開過程を、当時の教育学専門誌The School Reviewの経時的分析や課外活動論関連書籍の網羅的収集を通じて検討し、その性格を「学校内化」の観点から分析、関東教育学会第70回大会で口頭発表した。後者については現在、論文投稿を行っている。②については、広島大学が多数所蔵する占領期に実施された「教育指導者講習」（IFEL）関連記録や国立国会図書館憲政資料室所蔵のGHQ/SCAP文書をはじめ多数の資料・文献を収集した。今後は、①の成果をもとに、②に関連する資料の分析を進め、研究目的としても設定している日本における特別教育活動の成立過程と「学校内化」の機制をより詳細に研究していく。
