思いやり行動は，一般的に望ましい行動だと考えられているが，時に危険を伴い，悲劇を生むことがある。適切に思いやり行動を実行できるようになるためには、思いやり行動がもたらしうる結果について正しく認識した上で，危険を回避しながら相手を助ける方法を考える力を養うことが求められる。思いやり行動がもたらす結果に影響しうる要因の1つとして，行為対象の特性があげられる。行為対象が反社会的な人物である場合，理論的に，その人物に対して向社会的に振る舞うことは，行為者自身や社会にとっての不利益につながりかねない行動として想定されている一方，そのような人物に対する罰行動は，望ましい行動として想定されている。しかし，反社会的な相手を助けることや罰することに関する善悪判断の発達を扱った研究の知見は一貫しておらず，その様相は十分に解明されていなかった。本年度は，幼児を対象として，個別実験を実施した。タブレットを使用して，反社会的な対象に対する援助行動と妨害行動を扱った短い動画を提示し，各行動に関する社会的評価を求めた。その結果，幼児は，行為対象が反社会的な場合であっても，その相手を助けることをよいこととして，妨害することを悪いこととして認識していることが明らかになった。
