项目摘要

本研究はがん疫学をめぐる科学と社会の接点を社会認識論的観点から分析することを目的としており、初年度は研究計画全体の中でも基礎的な話題の調査・検討に取り組んだ。内容としては、大きく分けて三つのテーマの検討を進めることができた。これらのテーマは、がん疫学をめぐる論争を検討する際の基本的な視座として重要性がある。第一に、医学研究において科学と倫理の対立が問題になる典型的な場面として、研究の自由をめぐる議論を検討した。医学の歴史を振り返ると、二十世紀には科学政策を通じて医学研究の国家的振興が図られるようになったが、同時に非倫理的研究への対策として研究規制も強められてきた。とりわけ、倫理審査制度を通じた医学研究の規制は、非常に労力のかかる仕組みであることから研究の自由を不当に侵害しているという反対意見もしばしば生じている。そこで、研究の自由の実質的な根拠について科学哲学的な検討を行い、学会発表や講演を行った。また、米国における倫理審査制度の普及の歴史についても調査・検討を行った。第二に、疫学研究において科学と倫理の対立が問題になる典型例として、同意取得と科学的妥当性の関係について検討した。一般的な医学研究では研究対象者からの同意取得が求められるが、それによって研究対象者に偏りが生じ、研究の結論にバイアスが生じる可能性があるため、疫学においては同意取得免除の要件をめぐる論争が生じている。そうした論争の現代的展開を検討し、研究倫理の専門家の集まる会合で報告して議論を深めた。第三に、疫学方法論に関する文献の収集・調査を行い、疫学研究の代表例や、科学哲学における先行研究について情報を得た。これについては未発表ながら、サーベイ論文の執筆を計画している。
