ヒトにおいて、共感性は円滑な社会生活を支える重要な心的機能である。本研究課題では、基礎的な共感現象である情動伝染と行動伝染との関係を、判断バイアス課題を用いて非ヒト霊長類を対象に検証し、共感性の進化的起源を探ることを目指す。課題の採択後、ヒト行動進化研究センターで飼育されているニホンザルを対象に、タッチパネルを用いたGo／Noーgo課題のトレーニングを行なった。その後、タッチパネルを用いたGo／Noーgo型判断バイアス課題に基づく実験系によって、ニホンザルの情動状態の変化を正確に推定できるかを確認するため、ポジティヴ・コントロール実験を行った。ポジティヴ・コントロール実験では、霊長類においてネガティヴな情動を喚起することが広く知られている捕食者関連刺激を使用した。実験によって取得したデータを統計的に解析した結果、捕食者関連刺激を呈示された個体は、その直後に呈示された曖昧刺激をより悲観的に判断していたことがわかった。この結果から、本実験系の有効性を確かめることができた。この結果をもとに論文を書き上げ、英語学術雑誌に投稿中である。
