In the first year of my doctoral course, I accomplished several research objectives. I conducted a three-month field survey in Vietnam where I collected 100 DNA samples and identified 53 occurrence localities of warty newts (Paramesotriton deloustali). The specimens were then transferred to Kyoto University with CITES and ABS permissions. Additionally, I measured the body size and took ventral body photos of 182 warty newts. I also collected 11 environmental indicators at 23 locations, such as water temperature, pH, EC, O2, NO3, NO2, Carbonate hardness, general hardness, NH3/NH4, Width, and Depth of the stream. Lastly, I conducted clay model experiments at four different elevation levels (100m, 700m, and 1100m).To analyze the data, I reviewed the data from camera traps and compared the predation rates of Vietnam warty newts during the day and night. I also prepared 50 template DNA samples for Mig-seq sequencing and sequenced mitochondrial DNA for newt samples collected during the survey. Additionally, I run ecological niche modeling for two main groups of the Vietnam warty newt.As a result of my research, I submitted two manuscripts for publication. The first is titled "Clay Model Reveals the Difference in Day and Night Predation Rates on Vietnam Warty Newt (Caudata: Salamandridae)" and has been submitted to Current Herpetology (currently under review). The second manuscript, "Demographic and ecological niche dynamics of the Vietnam warty newt, Paramesotriton deloustali: historical climate influences" has been submitted to Plos ONE (currently under review).
