项目摘要

Mixed carcinoma of the uterine cervix is a rare tumor and its prognosis is poorer than that of sauamous cell carcinoma. The histologic criteria of this tumor and its histogenesis are not established and controversial.This study was performed to try to establish the histologic criteria and to clarify the histogenesis of this tumor.Materials and methods are as follows; 1) Cases; 5 cases of non-cancerous, 10 cases of early stage, 20 cases of advanced epidermoid carcinoma, one case of early stage and 10 cases of typical advanced mixed carcinoma. 2) Methods; Histochemical, enzyme histochemical, and electromicroscopic methods were used to investigate the morfologic nature of the epitelia.The results obtained were as follows; 1) Mixed carcinoma was classified into two subclasses; adenosquamous carcinoma and mucoepidermoid carcinoma and the prognosis of the former is less than the latter. 2) The characteristics of the epithelia of adenosquamous cell carcinoma were clear cytoplasm, positive with mucous reaction in the brush border, whereas the epithelia of mucoepidermoid carcinoma contained mucous vesicles and keratin. 3) Tumor cells of the mixed carcinoma showed bipotential nature of columnar epithelium and squamous epithelium, histochemically or electromicroscopically. 4) The original site of the early case of mixed carcinoma was the cleft portion between the surface epithelia and cervical glands. 5) From these results it may be considered that the histogenesis of mixed carcinoma is the cleft portion of cervical glands and that tumor cells possesses bipotential characteristics both squamous and columnar nature.
