项目摘要

わが国におけるユダヤ史研究は、古い。宮沢正典氏の『ユダヤ人論考一日本における論議の追跡』(新泉社・昭和57年)によれば、とくに戦前においては、マイナス・イメージ、差別の対象、社会主義とからませた立場で追究され、結論もおのずから、その線にそったものといってよい。戦後においても、それなりの客観的な評価が下されるようになったとはいえ、その量と質、つまり西欧の歴史研究が汗牛充棟であるのにくらべて、その研究の絶対数は少く、かく質においても、またシェイクスピアが描くシャイロックを基礎とした発想が主流を占め、まだまだ、日本におけるその研究水準は高くない。このような状況をかんがみ、本研究科では、最近出版され、しかも現在入手しうる、西欧における、とくにその中世における、ユダヤ人の、宗教,社会,経済,文化,教育等々の研究文献を収集することに努め、一応満足すべき状態になったと自負してよい。もちろん、これと平行して、ユダヤ人の歴史の背景をなすヨーロッパ史の文献も、重要なものを収集し、それらにもとづき、研究を行なう。その結果、ナチスにより行なられたユダヤ人虐殺に、その最高点を見た人種差別の根は、ヨーロッパ中世社会に発生したことを確認した。たとえば、その差別のひとつに、イースタ前後に、少年の殺害死体が発見された場合、それはユダヤ人によりなぶり殺しされた結果である、という思い込みが形成されるが、中世中期英国社会においてであり、その種の車件は、中世において50回、近世・近代においては100回、記録で確かめられるのであるが、これがその差別の典型的な例のひとつである。このような差別の発発生の研究は、その他の差別研究で通用し、今後とも研究をつづけるだけでなく、それらの総合的・多角的プロジェクト・チームの必要も痛感された。
