第1の課題である放射線治療における補助装置の改良と開発については、第3回日本顎顔面補綴学会総会(昭和61年5月、大阪)において、竹田が「口腔領域悪性腫瘍におけるモールド治療の成績とその評価」、谷口が「モールド治療における装置の設計とその照射および遮蔽効果」と題して研究成果を報告した。前者は、1978年以後開発し臨床応用してきた放射性金粒子によるモールド治療の臨床成績のまとめであり、本療法による2年以上局所非再発率が扁平上皮癌と悪性黒色腫を合わせても70%を越え、扁平上皮癌症例の5年生存率は74%を示した。一方、後者の報告は今年度施行例を含めた最近の治療例における装置の製作者側からのものであり、補助装置の改良と開発およびその簡略化についての成果を示した。第2の課題における本年度の研究は、義歯装着と密接な関係にある唾液腺の問題を検討した。大山・谷口は、放射線治療を受けた患者における唾液粘度を補助金により購入した粘度計により解析し、安静時唾液における粘度が非照射群に比較し低粘度であることを明らかにした。また、刺激粘度についてはほとんど差を認めなかった。本研究の成果も昭和62年2月に関連学会で報告を行った。竹田・堀内は、密封小線源治療における顎下腺損傷に着目し、舌癌症例における検討の結果を昭和62年4月の日本医学放射線学会において報告する。今回明らかにされたことは、ラジウム針やイリジウム針による組織内照射後の閉塞性顎下腺炎の頻度が、それぞれの線源別に60%および90%前後と高頻度に生じることであった。さらに、その発症時期や治療法の相違による症状発現の相違などについても新しい知見が得られた。モールド治療の成績および組織内照射後の顎下腺損傷の2課題については、その論文化も進んでおり、近々投稿予定である。
