(1)秋田藩領鉱山の史料調査として、銅山については阿仁銅山関係史料たる今林家文書、銀山については院内銀山関係史料たる小貫家文書等、主要鉱山の基本史料の調査を進め、次いで鉄山については田沢湖周辺の製鉄地帯、中小鉱山では八森銀山等を対象に関係資史料の調査を実施した。史料は写真撮影によってマイクロフィルムに収め、複写・整理して分析する作業を進めた。また他藩領鉱山研究の調査として、南部藩・加賀藩・土佐藩・薩摩藩を対象にこれまでの研究成果を把握するため各関係資料と文献の収集を進めた。(2)本研究課題については、現在のところ、院内銀山における文政以降、幕末の経営動向とその鉱山社会像を新たに提示できる見通しを得ており、目下その成果を論文として執筆中である。すなわち、院内銀山の金銀生産高や経営収支の動向、金名子経営の実態、鉱山で働く人々の存在形態や年中行事、生活様態等を明らかにし得た。阿仁銅山に関しては史料の整理と分析を続行中である。八森銀山については沿革がほぼ判明し、その他の中小鉱山については「鉱山紀年録」等の後年の編纂史料からその概要をほぼ把握できた。さらに、秋田藩領の製鉄についてはこれまで研究が乏しかったが、田沢湖周辺の製鉄地帯を調査して、当該地域の製鉄技術の変遷と水準、職人の移動、他領から鉄移入量、国産奨励政策としての鉄山振興とその失敗等を明らかにし、東北地方のなかでは総体として製鉄の盛んでなかった同藩の製鉄史の諸事実が近世製鉄史の研究に投げかける問題を提起するなど、その成果の一部を論文として発表した。同藩領の製鉄は金属鉱山で使用する掘削道具類の原料鉄として供給されており、この点から金属鉱山と鉄山との有機的関係なども看取できた。なお、秋田藩領鉱山を総体的に把握するためには引き続き綿密な史料調査を要するものと考えられる。
