『臣軌』は、南宋時代に散逸し、わが国にのみ伝存する所謂佚存書である。したがって、わが国において最も有利に研究が展開できる。そこで先ず、国会図書館・内閣文庫所蔵の『臣軌』について、通行本の寛文本と対校し私製の定本を作制した。この定本に基づいて『臣軌』10章の内容を、特に引用されている典故の割り出しを中心に分析した。その結果、9割の典故が判明した。それらは漢代から六朝にかけて著述されたものであり、特に杜恕の『体論』において大成された君臣同体論を基軸に編纂されたものである。したがって、『臣軌』自体には独創的な思惟が含まれているわけではない。しかし、『孝経』に規定された忠を媒介とする君臣関係に、君主を元首、臣下を股肱としてその一体不可分を主張する君臣同体論を接合したところに最大の特色があることが判明した。つぎに、『臣軌』の制作者と制作年代については、以下のことが明らかになった。『臣軌』は、則天武后の政策顧問機関である北門学士グル-プの手になるものであり、巻末に記載のある通り垂供元年の制作にかかるものである。その背景には、北朝末から唐初にかけて官僚数の増大と入官経路の複雑化が顕著となり、それにともなって国家機構全体の混乱が進行したことが挙げられる。『臣軌』は、この国家機構の中核をなす君臣関係に強固なイデオロギ-的支柱を与えるべく編纂されたものであった。今後は、唐代初期の政治過程のなかにおける『臣軌』の位置づけを明確にし、上記の諸論点をより具体的に跡づけてゆきたい。なお、このテ-マについては、11月22日、京都大学人文科学研究所の共同研究「中国中世の文物」(班長砺波護)において報告をおこなった。
