R&D投資が寡占企業の産出行動にどのような効果を与えるかをゲ-ム論を使って研究した。特に、分析の単純化のために複占企業を取り上げた。R&D投資は投資を行なった企業の限界費用を引き下げる効果を持つものと仮定する。しかも、この投資は2企業のうち1企業のみによって行なわれると考えよう。以下の2つのケ-スにおいて、企業1のR&D投資が名企業の産出量にどのような効果を与えるかを分析した。この分析をもとに日本企業の対応を考える。1.利潤最大化企業(PMF)の複占のケ-ス線型需要関数下では2企業の反応関数は共に右下がりとなる。このため、両企業の生産物は戦略的代替関数にある。このとき、企業1のR&D投資の結果、企業1の生産量は増加するが、相手企業のそれは減少することとなる。互いに相反する生産戦略を採る。2.労働者管理企業(LMF)の複占のケ-ス線型需要関数下では両企業の反応関数は、上記ケ-スと異なり、右上りとなる。このため、企業1と2の生産物は戦略的補完関係にある。企業1がR&D投資を行なうと、両企業は共に生産量を増加させる。両ケ-スをもとに現実の(日本)企業の行動を考えみると、日本企業はPMFとLMFの中間形態である。このため、寡占状態下にあるある企業の投資はその企業自身の産出量を増加させるが、他企業のそれを増加させるか否かは不明である。しかし、もし日本企業がLMFに近ければ、各企業は産出量を増加させるであろう。又、ある企業のR&D投資は相手企業の敵対的なR&D投資を誘発するであろう。なぜなら、PMFの場合、相手企業のその投資は当該企業の産出量を長期的に見ると、ゼロに近づけるため対抗上R&D投資を行なう。
