项目摘要

本研究は戦後日本における沖縄像の思想史的な変遷をたどり、戦後思想史における沖縄像の抑出を試みるものである。沖縄像の形成と展開にかかわる諸問題は、遠くは近世・近代へとさかのぼりうるものであるが、本研究がとりわけ戦後期を対象としたのは、この時期は日本の敗戦の結果、約30年にわたって沖縄が米国の異例の統治下にあったという事実にもとづいている。この結果、沖縄問題は戦後日本のナショナリズムの中心的な課題として、広範な人々の関心の焦点となり、その解決をめぐって政治・思想・文学などの分野で白熱的な議論が展開された。とりわけ,50年代の米軍による軍用地接収問題は、「朝日新聞」によって全国に報道され、これを契機に沖縄問題は、国民的課題として急速に注目をあびることとなった。こうして60年代に入ると、沖縄の日本復帰を求める運動は、大きな盛り上がりをみせ,言論ジャ-ナリズムの中心的な課題となった。以上のような経緯をふまえ,平成元年度は主要に60年代を中心とする沖縄像の分析作業に着手した。その方法は(1)全国主要新聞、雑誌における沖縄論の調査(2)沖縄現地の新聞社説の分析検討(3)政党レベルの沖縄論の検討(4)大衆団体レベルの資料収集(5)知識人における沖縄論の調査分析-というものであった。こうした分析作業の結果、新聞、政党、大衆団体、知識人など諸々のレベルで多種多様な沖縄がまさに噴出している様相が如実にみてとれるようになった。とりわけ、50年代との相違は,大衆運動の高揚とともに著明な知識人達の発言が目立つことである。中野好夫、近江健三郎、島尾敏雄らの沖縄論は、十国主義論、道義立国論、ヤポネシア論などとなって結実し、一方、沖縄現地側からも大田昌秀、大城立裕、新川明らによる沖縄の文化的、思想的な独自性、個有性が強調され、60年に入って沖縄像は豊かな思想像へと深化をみせ、それらはやがて70年代へと継承されていくことになる。
