本年度(昭和63年度)の文部省科学研究費補助金を頂いて、これまで調査・研究を進めてきたのは、昭和61年4月に施行となった「男女雇用機会均等法」を契機とする、企業の女性労働に対する対応である。社会の意識や、とりわけこの均等法を契機として、企業経営における女性労働のあり方が問われており、その現状を調査するとともに、今後の展開をもできる限り探ることに本調査・研究の目的である。今年度の研究としては、まずわが国企業の中で、従来より女性社員の割合が多く、またその活用にも積極的であると思われる流通業界、とりわけ百貨店・スーパー業界を中心に調査を行った。調査に入る前に、研究者全員で、数回の会合を持ち、この問題についての全体的な理解を深めることによって、必要と思われる資料等の収集を行った。この過程で、前述の調査対象である流通業界が決定された訳である。その中から上場企業を中心に、関西・中部そして東京に本社のある10数社を選び、面接調査を依頼し実施した。その調査から、今までのところ得られた結果(現在まだ取りまとめ中であり、詳細については、後日何らかの形で報告・公表する予定)は、大体以下のとうりである。1.この業界では「均等法」施行以前より、女子労働についてはかなりの関心を払ってきている。その意味では基本的な変化は見られない。2.どの企業も昭和50年代半ばより、大卒女子の採用に積極的であり、この時期から各社の女子社員の活用に変化が見られる。この点についての詳細は現在取りまとめ中である。3.この業界においては、少なくとも形式上(また実質的にも)男女格差は見られず、女性活用のポイントは、女性自身の意識に負うところが少なくない。また、他産業(特にメーカー)との比較調査が今後は望ましい!!。
