Study on the Effect of Hotz's Palatal Plates for Cleft Lip and Palate Patients.

对于早期接受唇腭裂手术的新生唇腭裂患者，Hotz的盘子可以使他们像正常婴儿一样正常地吃奶。结果表明：(1)腭板具有显著的增乳效果，早在出生后5 ~ 6个月，喂养量和喂养时间就恢复正常。(2) 3岁患儿龋齿发生率为42.1%，龋齿率为2.1，与同地区正常儿童龋齿发生率相当。(3)无先天性缺失患儿的原牙列牙弓宽度和牙弓长度与正常儿童相同。先天性缺失组的牙弓宽度和长度均大于未使用腭板组。(4)在颅面生长方面，未见上颌骨下生长、严重的ⅱ类和多型。(5)在使用腭板的情况下，没有产生腭发音。(6)腭板对唇腭裂患者恢复正常口腔功能非常有效。

For newborn patients with the cleft lip and palate, who received the lip-plasty in an early stage, Hotz's plates applied to enable to feed milk normally as normal babies do.The results were as follows :(1) The palatal plates were so effective for increasing milk intake that feeding quantity and time became normal as early as from 5 to 6 months after birth.(2) The caries incidence rate of 3-year-old patients was 42.1% and df tooth rate 2.1, which were the same rates as these of normal children living in the same area.(3) The dental arch width and length in the primary dentition of the patients without congenital missing were as the same as these of normal children. In a congenital missing group, the dental arch width and length were larger than these of the patients without using palatal plates.(4) With regard to the craniofacial growth, undergrowth of the maxilla, severe Class lll cases and dolico types were not found in the stage of the primary dentition.(5) In the cases using palatal plates, no palatal pronunciation was produced.(6) The palatal plates were very effective for cleft lip and palate patients to gain normal oral function.
