-1 Medical EntomologyThe studies were performed in order to develop control method by analyzing the biological characters of the vectors of diseases in Southeast Asia from the point of their physiology and ecology, emphasizing physical and chemical stimulation without insecticide application in their control. Irradiation of lasar light on mosquitoes : After the irradiation was introduced to Culex pipiens " molestus", using 5mW/m of HeーNe lasar light for 10 second the mosquitoes irradiated were paired with non treated ones, kept and maintained for several generations. The efficacy of the sterilization was proven when the group of 1-2 days after immersion showed highest sterility effect and their sterility lasted to 4th generations, being 50 % of larval mortality of their offspring. Attractancy for bloodfeeding of Culex quinquefastiatus : The attractancy was tested on Culex quinquefastiatus. Animal and chemical stimulation experiments were performed. The chemicals which attracted effectively in high number of mosquitoes were octanol, n-butyric acid, 1-lacrtic acid, 1-nonanol, (s)(+)-2-nonaol and 5-methyl-3-heptanol. A trap which emits and evaporate modified wing beat sound, carbondioxide and animal scent for mosquito vectors was designated and applied for patent due to excellent success of field application in tropical areas. Integrated uses of the trap and an insect growth regulator, pyriproxyfen have proven their utilily fily for control of vectors of Japanese encephlitis, filariasis, dengue and dengue hemorrhagic feyer and malaria, and monitoring of the various vectors in tropical field as well as in seasonal pervarence of Culex tritaeniorhynchus in Japan.-2 Studies on Helminthic DiseasesStudies on the relation between phylogeny and pathogenicity of the agent organisms :Incidental parasites Paragonimus in Thailand and Japan were compared among sympatric and allopatric species. The species with similar pathogenicity, P. miyazakii and P. heterotremus had closer genetic relationships than the other species of sympatic one.Liver fluke in Thai, Opistorchis vivelini and Clonorchis sinensis in Japan and Korea are being clinicopathologically and epidemiolo-parasitologically investigated. Though the studies are still on going, Phylogenic investigation suggested a number of morphological variations were proved in the northeast area of Thailand.Phylogenic studies on Angiostrongylus proven from the point of electromorph and mitochondrial DNA discriminate are still on going since last 3years.
