高齢化社会を迎えて、高齢者の健康・体力の問題が重要な課題になっている現状に鑑み,望ましい高齢者像として「積極的社会参加型高齢者」を描き、これら高齢者の体力・日常生活活動能力(ADL)及び生活満足度を調査測定し、それらの相互関係を検討するなかから、高齢者のクオリティ・オブ・ライフの基盤となる体力要因を探ろうとした。対象者は長野県老人大学に在籍する60才以上の高齢者358名(男180,女175)で、平均年齢は、男68.54±4.9才,女67.5±3.3才である。体力測定は、木村らが高齢者向きテストとして示した6種目からなるバッテリ-テストを用いた。ADLは東京都老人総合研究所による13項目からなる調査票を、生活満足度調査はP.G.Cモラ-ル・スケ-ルと生活満足度Kを組み合わせた22項目の調査票を用いた。体力測定の結果、男女とも閉眼片足立ち、座位ステッピング、長座位体前屈、握力、垂直とび、息こらえ、の全種目が、5段階評価の3以上であり、6種目の総合点も高く、5才ごとの年齢階級別にみても、70才以上であっても、60〜64才のレベルを維持していた。ADLは、13項目のうち、男女とも、平均点が12点を上回り,項目別の通過率も全て85%以上で、ADLでは全く問題がみられなかった。生活満足度は、総得点の平均点が、男女とも15点台であり、項目別では「心理的安定感」「現在の生活の満足感」「孤独感」についての満足感が高いにの比し「人生全体の満足感」「老いについての評価」を反映すると考えられる項目の満足度が低い傾向にあった。生活満足度と自覚症状の保有数には高い相関がみられ、生活満足度の低い層ほど自覚症状を多くもちあわせていた。体力と生活満足度には、一定の関係が見られなかったが、これは、対象者の体力水準が高く体力に対する不満を感じていないためと考えられる。
