项目摘要

1.日本における美術通史の収集と検討明治以降昭和戦前期までに刊行された、日本美術、中国美術、西洋美術に関する通史的な図書を収集し、その刊行時期と内容の変遷と動向を検討した。その結果、特に日本美術に関する通史は政治的な国家体制整備の動向、中国美術に関する通史は、日清戦争から大陸進出に到る対中国政策の動向や東洋学の成立との強い関係を持つことが判明した。2.美術専門雑誌の成立と内容の動向に関する検討明治10年代以降、次々に創刊された美術専門雑誌について、明治期を中心に、その成立時期と内容傾向の動向を検討した。その結果、明治10年代から20年代にかけての美術雑誌は、天皇を頂点とする中央集権国家体制の整備と、そのための世論形成としての国粋主義的傾向との強い関連を持つことが判明した。明治16年創刊の『龍池会報告』、17年創刊の『東洋絵画叢誌』の性格については、解説論文としてまとめた。3.美術概念および用語の成立過程の検討現在も用いられる美術用語や概念の成立過程について検討した。その結果、それらは当初、博覧会を中心とする殖産興業政策の中で外郭が成立したのち、文部省の美術教育政策の中で、その実質的な内容が形成されたことが判明した。これについては『美術研究』353号に論文としてまとめた。4.美術教育制度についての検討創作美術に関する教育制度は、東京美術学校のカリキュラムで具体化され、同校の授業でフェノロサ、天心が初めて美術史を講義した。文部省と日本画新派によって行なわれたそれらの内容についてまず検討する一方、旧派系の美術団体が行なった制作活動と旧来の歴史観、価値観の保持を検討し、両者を比較。展覧会図録等の論文としてまとめた。
