位相数学における最も重要な概念として距離空間がある。距離空間の一般化理論とその応用を研究した。距離空間の位相的一般化として,quasiーmetric space;symmetric space;ω△ーspace;およびある種のネットワ-クをもつ空間等を集合と関数による方法による考察しいくつかの新しい結果を得た。一方,これらの空間がどのような位相的条件のもとで距離空間となるかという課題も併せて考察し,有用な応用が出来るよう努めた。更にこれらの成果を弱位相の立場で一般化した。位相数学の代数学的方面の有用な応用として,群を位相的に考察する位相群の研究が最近盛んになってきた。位相群がどのような位相的条件のもとで距離空間となるかという課題を位相数学における弱位相の立場で考察し新しい結果が得られた。この成果により,幾何・代数学における帰納的極限空間の定理を統合し,一般化することが出来た。其の他;次のような研究を位相数学の観点から考察し,いくつかの結果を得た。1.ノルム空間やバナッハ空間の間の正則関数。2.三次元ユ-クリッド空間における曲面と円との相互関係。3.(幾何・代数学方面において重要な概念である)CWー複体において,ある種の位相的性質が胞体全体から構成されている被覆にどのような影響を与えるか。4.関数空間におけるσー環の研究と,ボレル集合,ベイル集合等の一般化理論。科学研究費により,多くのシンポジウム,セミナ-,研究集合等に参加し,研究成果の発表,情報の交換,研究連絡等を活発にし,研究の遂行に極めて有意気であった。
