Spray characteristics of the ultra high-pressure injection spray were evaluated, and also diesel combustion characteristics and exhaust emissions were measured when the high-pressure njection system was applied to an experimental diesel engine. The following items were evaluated in this study.> Atomization of diesel spray> Simultanious concentration measurements of vapor and liquid in a diesel spray injected into high pressure and high temperature atomosphere> Characteristics of sprays impinging onto a combustion chamber wall> Initial process of the high-pressure injection spray> Combustion characteristics and exhaust emissions of multi-stage injection diesel engine> Spray characteristics of multi-stage injection> Ambient gas entrainment into intermittent gas jets> Exhaust emissions of high-pressure injection diesel engine> Flame behavior of diesel flame in a combustion chamber> Thickness of lubrication oil between cam and rollertapetThe results obtained by this research demonstrates effects of the high-pressure injection on spray characteristics, combustion characteristics and exhaust emissions quantitatively. Moreover, the results suggest how to apply the ultra high-pressure injection system to real diesel engines.
