项目摘要

日本の大学の教員養成カリキュラムについては、全国の教員養成系大学の履修要項等を調査し、一部の例外を除いてほとんど「話す」訓練や研究を行なう科目が開設されていないことが明らかとなった。アメリカの大学の教員養成カリキュラムについては、1991年度の各大学カタログ(マイクロフィッシュ)を利用して調査した。その結果、スピーチコミュニケーションの単位が必修である場合が多いこと、初等教育教員免許にも中等教育教員免許にも同様に、教える教科に関係なく必修となっていること、必修や選択必修になっていない場合でも、スピーチに関する試験に合格することを免許状取得の条件にしていることが確認された。明治以来の日本の師範学校教則等と戦前の欧米(イギリス、アメリカ、ドイツ、オーストリア)の教員養成令等を比較した結果、「話す」ことの訓練や研究が欧米ではカリキュラムに組込まれていたのに対し、日本においては、それがほとんどなかったが確認された。これらの差異の理由として、(1)日本語は文字依存性が強い言語であるので、音声言語より文字が重視されること、(2)寺子屋以来の書いて学ぶ学習形態の伝統があること、(3)明治10年代に教師の演説活動と民権運動が連動し、意識的に音声による自己表現の手段が教師たちから遠ざけられたこと、(4)仏教の説教という話術の蓄積が教師教育の中で生かされなかったなどが仮説的に考えられる。今後は、この諸点について実証的に研究をすすめていきたい。なお、研究成果の一部として、日本比較教育学会第29回大会自由研究発表として「『話す』ことからみた教師教育カリキュラムの比較研究」(平成5年6月19日)を口頭発表した。
