研究テーマは「嗜癖者とその家族の回復に関する社会学的研究」という題目であったが,前年度からの研究の継続・進展の過程で,より身近な問題である不登校問題とその家族に対してのアプローチを中心に研究を進めた。目標としていた質問紙による調査については,不登校児の親の会メンバーとのラポール(親密な関係)の確立が十分でないと判断されたため,年度内に研究目的を達成することが困難と判断し,残念ながら延期した。しかし,前年度から継続的に接触・参与観察していた不登校児の親の会のメンバー(母親)数名にインタビューを申し込み,長時間にわたるインタビューをおこなうことができた。インタビューのテープ起こしスクリプトによって,彼らの得てきた援助機会やそれに対する構え等については,ある程度の知見を得ることができたと考えている。嗜癖と不登校の関係については、参与観察のデータ等も参考にした仮説を日本社会学会大会(1993年10月,於東洋大学)で報告した。その際にも述べたが、不登校にも嗜癖にみられるような「共依存」的な人間関係は成立しており、そこからの離脱が不登校児と親との関係回復の一つの鍵になることは確実である。しかし、不登校という現象を「病気」という隠喩で語ることに対する異論も出されたことから,不登校という現象の定義レベルでの議論をさらに深める必要があることが示唆された。この問題に対しては,嗜癖論と同様に「病気」という隠喩が通常ともなう否定的な含意だけではなく,内部からのメッセージ,という積極的な含意をもつ,という立論が可能であり,理論的に十分対応可能だと筆者は考えている。
