In this project we had some investigative researches regarding "Study on the causal relations between diet and oral diseases" in Indonesia (Jakarta) and Japan (Fukuoka). These researches are consisted by four themes as follows ;1) A study on the causal relation between oral cancer and diet2) A study on the causal relation between caries and diet3) A study on the causal relation between temporomandibular dysfunction and diet4) A study on the causal relation between periodontosis and dietThe objective of this study, "the causal relation between oral cancer and diet", was to determine the prevalence of ora disorder/disease among the institutionnalized elderly in Jakarta and Fukuoka witch never be conducted before. In Jakarta, of 607 elderly persons, 347 were interviewed and clinically oral examined. 246 persons (70.9%) had one or more systemic diseases and the most frequent being theumatism (34.3%), followed by atopic disease (26.8%) and hypertension (21.9%). Of 347 persons who had been o … More ral examined, 100 (28.8%) had one or more oral mucosal diseases and 247 (71.2%) persons without oral disease. Coated tongue (9.8%) was the most frequent oral mucosal desease found in this study, followed by atrophy of tongue papillae (6.9%), denture stomatitis (2.0%), aphtous lesion (2.3%), fibroma (2.0%), geographic tongue (2.0%) and erythematous lisions (1.2%). The rest were less than 1% including oral cancer that found in one person. The findings of this study shows the need of appropriate oral and dental health service for the elderly in the future. The study, "the causal relation between temporomadibular dysfunction and diet" gained someconclusions as follows ; (1) TMJ function is not influenced by sex difference, (2) Although more female seemed to recognized some symptome of TMD,yet statistical analysis showed no sgnificant difference between both sexes. (3) Looking at the big difference in percentage between male and female on the behavioral aspects, it can be concluded that femaleare rather shy to judsge themselves.Data of the study, "causal relation between periodontosis and diet", shows that in an elderly population group there is a high prevalence of periodontal disease in different degrees in the subjects in general, but only few individuals suffer from severe generalized periodontal distructiion.
