项目摘要

本研究は、東マレーシアの焼畑農耕民ムルット族の口頭伝承を社会人類学の観点から記述・分析することを目的とした。まず、第一段階として、既に1988年から1990年の住み込み調査時にカセットテープとして記録・保存してあったムルット族の口頭伝承をムルット語のまま書き起こし、さらにマレーシア語に翻訳した。今後、さらに日本語ないし英語に翻訳することを計画している。完成後のテキストは、『国立民族学博物館研究報告』等において順次公表する予定である。テキストの作成と平行して、ボルニオやスラウェシなど隣接諸民族の口頭伝承に関する文献資料を、前後二回にわたって東京都立大学などの大学や研究機関から収集した。また、昨年(1993年)11月には日本学術振興会東南アジア派遣研究者としてマレーシアに派遣されたが(研究課題「マレーシアにおける社会経済変動と文化動態」)、その際、現地の大学や研究機関において国内では入手が困難な文献資料や、さまざまな民族の若者たちが自分たち自身で作詞・作曲したポップスのカセットテープ資料などを収集してきた。これらの資料を用い今後、伝統的な口頭伝承ばかりでなく、今まさに作られつつある「現代の口頭伝承」にまで研究の視野を拡大する予定である。各民族独自のアイデンティティーの危機や再生、希望や失望といった現代的問題が明らかになるものと期待される。最後に、以上の手続きで得られた口頭伝承に関する資料を、社会組織や社会構造と関連付けながら分析していった。研究成果の一部は既に、口頭の研究発表や学術雑誌の論文として公表した(本報告書「研究発表」参照)。今後、資料をさらに多角的に分析し、その成果を順次公表していく予定である。
