项目摘要

江戸期に各藩の扶持を受けながら京都に住み、禁裏や仙洞での能、本願寺での能、その他公家の屋敷等での囃子会などに出勤した京住能役者の研究の手始めとして、尾張藩、加賀藩、黒田藩、仙台藩の役者についての資料を収集し、考察の対象に、藩に抱えられた役者の早い例である尾張藩の笛役者藤田清兵衛を選んだ。藤田清兵衛は、初め近衛信尋に小姓として仕え、後水尾院の寵を得、後、尾張藩に扶持を受けた。以後、尾張藩は藤田家の代々を笛役者として抱えていくが、文化年間に幕府が抱える広儀役者との間に問題が起き、他流と共演できないという状況となる。これは、広儀役者と、藩の扶持を受けた各藩の手役者との間に生じた意識のズレによって生じたものであるが、この一件の資料を整理していく過程で、背後には、江戸中期以後、各流儀において形成されてきた家元意識と、能役者の雇用形態によって生じる意識との齟齬があることが明らかとなった。江戸中期以後、能は謡本の発行部数も飛躍的に増大し、市中の謡人口が激増した。これは謡に留まらず、囃子や仕舞にも及び、この享受層の獲得をめぐって、各流儀間の利害も相互に関係を有するようになったものと思われる。江戸初期に確認される流儀がこの時期に消滅、統合されていくのもこの流れにおいて理解されねばならないであろう。従来、能においては近代以降の造語とされていた「家元」が既に文化年間のこの一件に確認できることから、能の家元制度、家元意識の問題は今後改めて考えられなければならない課題となろう。
