ジョン・キ-ツの詩における古代ギリシア文化の影響を、アポロン、エンデュミオン、プシュケという3古代神にまつわる作品を中心に研究した。その概要は以下の通りである。1.まず、キ-ツの初期のアポロンに関する詩(“Ode to Apollo,"“Sleep and Poetry,"“On first looking into Chapman's Homer,“To a young lady who sent me a laurel crown,"“God of the golden bow"等)を取り上げ、当時のキ-ツにとってアポロンは文字通り詩神として生きており、それゆえ詩の世界は「黄金の国」に他ならなかったこと、アポロンの音楽が此の世の自然(とりわけ夕暮れ時の)音楽と結び合わされていること、アポロンの姿が黄金の御者として描かれていること、そして月桂冠をめぐるエピソードがキ-ツのアポロンへの真剣な帰依の思いの証拠であること等を論文にまとめた。2.エンデュミオン神については、『エンデュミオン』をキ-ツによる新たな愛の神話の創造として読み解きながら、その中に登場するアレトゥサやグラウコスといった神々もまた、愛とその再生というテーマにそって新たな意味を与えられていることを解明し、論文にまとめた。3.“Ode to Psyche"をキ-ツによる古代ギリシア世界への自覚的な態度表明として、つまり古代の神(この場合はプシュケ)を内面化することによって新たに己の心の奥深くに再生させることへの決意表明として、読み解いた。これに関する論文は、本年8月に発行される『神戸英米論叢』に投稿する予定である。
