本研究では、日本の製造業直接投資を通じた東アジア諸国への技術移転が近年加速化している状況に注目し、このメカニズムを理論、および実証分析を通じて明らかにした。理論分析においては、日系企業がアジア子会社に対して行う技術移転のスピードを明らかにするモデルを構築し、近年、このスピードが加速化しつつある原因として、[1]製品別要因(各製品が標準化するスピードが速まっている点)、[2]立地点別要因(日本と東アジア諸国との発展格差が縮まっている点)、[3]企業別要因(日系企業のアジア子会社とのネットワークが形成されつつある点)の3点を指摘した。実証分析においては、日系電機メーカーの製品,企業別データを用いて技術移転ラグ(日本本社での生産開始からアジア子会社での生産開始までの年数)に関する回帰分析を行い、理論モデルの有意性を確認するとともに、近年の技術移転ラグの変化をもたらした各要因の相対的重要性を計測した。技術移転ラグの年次別標本平均値は1987年から92年にかけて増加傾向を示したが、この一見逆説的な現象は、(1)標準化スピードの遅い製品であるVTRのアジア移転件数が増えていること,(2)日本との発展格差の小さいアジアNIE_Sから発展格差の大きいアセアン諸国および中国へと移転先が拡散していること,(3)円レートの増勢が一服してきたこと,の3点から説明される一方、日系メーカーのアジア子会社数の増大に伴うネットワークの形成が技術移転ラグをに縮小させる方向に作用していることが明らかとなったのである。以上の研究成果に関し現在論文を作成中であり、また、国際経済学会等の場を通じ詳細を公表していく意向である。
