本研究では、日本の企業における賃金・雇用の調整過程を、企業規模による差異により比較するという目的で計量分析を行った。はじめに、製造業において企業規模別の労働市場を考え、そこでの労働需給の変動、失業変動を推計した。推計方法は、Lambertによるミスマッチを考慮できる不均衡計量モデルを用いた。その結果、企業規模を大企業、中小企業に大別すると、両者でかなり異なった傾向がみられ、大企業の労働市場では超過供給状態が続くのに対して、中小企業の労働市場では超過供給期と超過需要期が存在していることが示された。また、中小企業労働市場では摩擦的失業が相対的に高いウェイトを占めていることが判った。製造業全体の失業の変動をみると、平均的には摩擦的失業が主要な失業の要因であるといえるが、不均衝による失業が高まる時期には、その比率もかなり大きくなり、均衝景気循環論にみられるような失業の変動は自然失業率の変動によるものであるとする主張は当てはまらないことになる。次に、企業規模別に景気ショックに対する雇用、実質賃金率、労働時間の調整速度を、構造VARモデルの推計に基づくインパルス応答により比較することにより、雇用、労働時間の長期水準への調整速度規模間ではほぼ共通であるが、賃金の調整速度は大規模企業ほど遅くなることが示された。また、大規模企業の賃金調整は、長期水準への調整が始まる時点がショックからかなり時間を経てからであるという意味でも硬直性を持つ。本研究でのふたつの分析の結果は、大規模企業ほど賃金・雇用調整が労働市場の需給庄力に応じておこなわれる状況から遠くなることを示唆している。
