本研究の目的は、社会学等の様々な分野で重要な概念である類似性の表現方法を提案することであった。特に今回は、類似性データを扱うの解析手法である多次元尺度法において、非対称性の表現法を提案することが主な目的であった。これに関しては、非対称性を大きさと向きをもつベクトル量として表わすことを考え、従来の手法より直観的で解釈し易い手法を提案した。また、もう一つの目的である、実際に使用できるプログラムの開発については、VEFRAP(VEctor Field Rpresentation of Asymmetric Proximities)という、数式処理システムMathematica^<TM>上で動作するプログラムを開発した。Mathematica^<TM>を用いたことで会話的に解析を進めることができ、データを疑似距離行列の形で与えるだけで2次元または3次元のグラフを得ることができるプログラムが構築できた。解析結果の利用も簡単に行なうことができ、それを用いて非対称性の程度あるいは種類を推測する様々な指標を導出することがか可能である。本研究の成果は、11th Symposium on Computational Statistics(COMPSTAT′1994),1994,Vinna,Austria.において、Vector Representation of Asymmetry in Multidimensinal Scaling.として発表予定である。今後は、提案した手法では考慮していない自己類似度の表現方法についても研究を進めたいと考えている。また、プログラムでは、対称MDSの手法として、Torgerson's Methodを用いているが、扱う類似性の種類により選択が可能なように、それ以外の手法も組み込むことを考えている。
