気象衛星を始めとするリモートセンシングにおける画像情報は観測範囲が広いことに加えて経時的な解析にも利用できるため、各種の学術分野から利用されているが、保持する情報量が大量になるため、観測範囲や軌道情報といった受信に関する情報だけがデータベース化されている場合が非常に多い。ここ数年の間、研究代表者は、二次記憶装置の大容量化に伴い、受信局における画像データベースの構築が進めるとともに、実時間レベルで情報検索を行なうための高速情報検索手法の開発を行なってきた。しかし、これまでのシステムでは、受信局での利用を想定してきたため、遠隔地の利用者が情報検索を行なう場合の情報伝送路の帯域確保の点は考慮していなかった。今年度、研究代表者は、東京大学生産技術研究所等で観測が行なわれているリモートセンシングデータを遠隔地から高速に検索を行なうために、ISDN回線を用いたサーバ・クライアント方式による計算機間相互接続用ソフトウェアの構築を進めてきた。これには、本年度の科学研究費で購入したISDNボードを用いている。これにより、遠隔地のユーザは、大学間相互接続網の有無によらずデータ転送のための帯域を確保することが可能となり、研究を促進することが可能となっている。現在、この成果についてまとめを行なっているところである。現在明らかになっている問題点としては利用者が複数になった場合、サーバへのアクセス競合が起こるとクライアント側からの利用要求は競合側ユーザの呼の切断まで待ち合わせを行なう必要があるが、これに対する明解な解法を持たないことにある。今後は、受信局におけるサーバシステムでの利用者の競合に伴う各種の問題点について研究を進めていく方針である。
