スポーツ潜水が身障者に対する水中運動療法としてまた生涯スポーツとして有効であることが知られた。そこで今回は身障者を対象としたスポーツ潜水の指導法について検討した。初めに健常者を対象に四肢麻痺、二肢麻痺のシュミレーション潜水を行ない、次いで身障者の四肢麻痺者、二肢麻痺者を対象に潜水指導を行なった。指導方法は、Handicapped Scuba Association の安全基準にもとづいた。この模様は1993年8月1日のテレビ東京(午後2:00-2:30)で全国放送された。1.褥瘡(床ずれ)打撲、擦過傷、圧迫傷などから身体を保護し保温するためウエットス-ツ、ブ-ツ、グローブを着用させた。保護及び浮力確保用のウエットス-ツは、体側にファスナ-を取り付けた特別仕様の物が身障者が着脱するうえで有効であった。環境の温度変化に対する抵抗力も弱いため、日焼け、体温上昇、体温低下には十分な注意が必要であった。2.能力評価裸体での水泳能力評価・水面でのリラックス能力を評価するサバイバルスイミング・水慣れ程度を知るための潜水能力評価では、健常者のシュミレーションあるいは身障者も同様に、四肢麻痺状態では困難を呈し、二肢麻痺状態ではかなりの個人差が見られた。一方、ウエットス-ツ及びマスク・スノ-ケルを着用した状態であればC-6以下の損傷で肩部の機能が十分に保たれている場合には水面移動・水面でのリラックスが可能であった。特に、二肢麻痺者においては、これらの能力は、練習により十分改善されることが示唆された。3.潜水スキルSCUBA器具を使用したスポーツ潜水の基本的スキルは、二肢麻痺者においては健常者とほぼ同様に行うことが可能であった。唯一の異なる点は、推進力を得る方法であった。四肢麻痺者では殆どのスキル・トレーニングにバディーまたは指導員の介護が必要になるが、圧平衡(耳抜き)は充分個人レベルで行なえた。今後の研究の展開:スポーツ潜水は、かなりの種類の身体障害者が行なえるスポーツである。今後はより詳細な安全基準及び指導基準を確立する。さらに身障者用の潜水用具の開発もあわせて行なう。
