Recent acvance of photochemistry and photophysics is directed toward researchs of development of new photoresponsive materials for optical memories and optical processrors. In these researches, photochemical properties like photoreaction quantum yields and polarization are fundamental. The purpose of the present study is to assemble an equipment systematically designed for measuring photochemical properties. The equipment is conposed of the following three parts.(1) Monochromatic excitation light sources Two light sources are employed : a lambda-tunable laser (Ti : sapphire laser) for photochemical reactiion and a 150-W Xe light for fluorescence measurement.(2) High-sensitivity fluorescence spectrophotometer Weak fluorescence is dispersed by a polychromotor (F25) and is detected with a linear-array multichannel photon-counting detector (Hamamatsu IMD-PC) which is capable of detecting emission of single-photon level.(3) Sample compartment and its peripherals A sample is set inside a vacuum compartment with three mechanical shutters switching the light paths from the above two light sources and to the polychromator.The equipment was totally asembled and was tested the sensitivity. It was found that the equipment has a sensitivity higher 100 times than an conventional fluorescence spectrophotometer.
