上記の課題を達成するための第一段階として今年度では、道内における近代都市の成立と展開に直接、間接の両方に関連した様々な史資料の調査収集とその系統的な整理に研究の大半の時間が費やされた。具体的には、北海道において明治以降に成立した大半の都市市街地に関連した、官製と民間製作の双方からなる様々な地域・団体文献やそれぞれの都市史誌類などを主要な情報源とした上で、電気や水道・ガス並びに軌道鉄道等の公益事業の展開に関わる都市史的資料、また経済生活保護や屠殺場・墓地・塵芥処理場・火葬場等の経営に関する都市社会事業関連諸資料、更には、それら様々な主として都市自治体行政上の事業にも直接、間接に関連した大小の民間事業資本・団体の歴史的・地理的展開過程に関連した史資料等々の網羅的かつ系統的な調査収集と、当研究費で導入したパーソナル・コンピュータを利用したそのデータ・ベース化の一連の基礎的作業が実施された。更に、これと平行して、地理学・歴史学をはじめとして広く社会科学一般に広がる近代都市成立論関連の理論・実証双方の夥しい諸研究に対する当面の整理展望を目指した文献研究も行われた。ここで、広義の比較地誌学的研究関心との関連から特に注目がなされたのは、英領北アメリカや西領ラテンアメリカなど長期の植民支配地域における近代都市成立とその政治経済的機能に関する諸研究である。このように些か壮大な枠組に基づいた本研究は、好運にも当研究費の補助を受けて初年度としてようやくその骨格を整えるには至ったものの、一連の研究成果として公刊の運びとするには様々な時間空間的制約によって未熟、展開不足の点も数多く、今後とも研究実践の持続を通じて、先の独自の北海道都市史誌データ・ベースの一層の充実と理論的並びに比較研究の一層の深化を現在期す所大である。

The first stage of the above project was completed this year, and most of the time was spent on the investigation and collection of historical data and the systematic arrangement of the research on the establishment and development of modern cities. In addition, geography, history and social sciences are related to each other. The study of comparative geography is concerned with the relationship between the establishment of modern cities and the functions of political systems in the western and northern regions of the United Kingdom. This study is based on good luck and research grants. It is based on the initial year and the completion of the research results. It is based on the constraints of time and space. It is not mature enough to carry out research in the future. The history of Hokkaido city in the first place is full of theoretical and comparative studies.
