本研究は、スポーツにおける主体的・計画的な学習能力を育成する上での体育科「選択制授業」の可能性、ならびにそれを実現するための条件を明らかにするため、以下の下位課題が設定された。1.体育科に求められる新しい学力の構造--ここでは、新学習指導要領の提唱する「新学力」観を考察するとともに、学力の主体的(能力的)側面と客体的(内容的)側面との関連から自己教育力の構造モデルを構想した。2.選択制授業の学習形態上の特質の考察--文部省の指導書および指導資料をもとに、小学校の「めあて別学習」・中学校の「課題別学習」・中高等学校の「選択制学習」のそれぞれの学習形態上の特質および系統的関連を考察した。特に学習の「個性化」と「共同化」の統一という観点から、生涯スポーツを志向する体育科学習の組織原則を明らかにした。3.山口県下の中・高等学校の選択制授業の実施状況の分析--(1)文部省研究指定校、(2)山口県教育委員会の研究指定校、(3)山口県中学校教育研究協議会(保健体育部会)に所属する公立中学校、(4)山口大学附属光・山口中学校の各選択制体育授業の実施状況を分析し、考察した。「種目内選択制」については担当教諭の周到な計画と工夫によって創意的に実施されているものの、大単元による「領域選択制」は校内の施設・設備・スタッフの制約からほとんど実施されていなかった。また体育教師へのアンケートから、「選択制授業」の実施にはカリキュラム編成に際して他教科との関連が出てくるなど、全校体制のもとでの条件づくりが不可欠であることが明らかとなった。研究協力校による実験授業の実施と授業分析については、今後の課題として残された。
