弥生時代の打製石器については、石器製作技術の観点から総括的にとらえた研究が少ない。これは打製石器において型式認定の基準となる細部調整技術について、十分な検討がなされていないことにも原因がある。今回、数量的な裏付けのある南河内地域での出土例について従来、私が行った調査を再検討するとともに、前期に限定できる資料である北大和地域での出土例について検出遺物の悉皆調査を行った。その際に細部調整技術を、角度・深度・裏表・位置・様態などについて数量化して記述し、集計することによって、石器における細部調整のあり方をより客観的に記述し比較することができた。このことは、定形的型式に片寄りがちであった分析を、不定形な石器遺物にも適用可能としたことを意味する。細部調整個々にについての検討は従来も行っていたが、今回属性の組み合わせを再検証できた。また、ひとつの個体の中で複数存在している細部調整について、相互の関係の検討を、今回購入したパソコンを利用した統計計算によって詳しく行い、資料本によっては細部調整が独立性の強い存在であることが浮き彫りになった。剥片や対する検討も行ったが、剥片と細部調整のある剥片とを連係させた分析は今後の課題となった。石核に対する検討は、その点数が少ないこともあり、分析方法の再検討も必要であると考えている。また、数値シミュレーションについては基礎的な部分からさらに検討すべき点が多く、今後の研究に期待するところが大きい。
