1. This final report is the result three years of research work arried out by the auther so as to study up on the development of the German automotive industry. This industry attempted to adopt the american mass production system during 1930s and 1940s, but after World War II he realized in fact his successful innovations by introducing the Ford's production techniques, and he ushered in a new era of leading industry in the West Germany. Durin 1990s the lean production echniques have permeated the vehicle assemblers and components industry in Germany. On the other side, the automotive industry of East Germany progressed, in principle, in the Ford' methods of Production systems, but it was integrated into the centralizae industrial organisations, the so called industrial complex ("Kombinat"), which was isolated from the competitive societies of the Western Countries.2. This researching work is therefore divided into two main subjects : Comparative perspectives on the implementation and modificatin of the Ford's system in the German automotive industry ; and the industrial history of the East German automotive industry, includes a researching on his transformation process after the integration of East-West Germanys. These sections draw on the latest research carried out by the auther, especialy the empirical core of the research is a study of the industrial history of the formar East German automotive industry struggling for survival going on among the assembler and components firms which constitute the new integrated automotive industry of Germany since 1990. At the same time significant attention in the project was given to investigate and to collect the various documents on the development of the German automotive industry since 1930s, which the achieves in the East Germany retained after World War II.
