研究者らが開発した民族舞踊の実技習得用マルチメディア教材“ガムランの技法"において、コンピューターの高速化や高性能化にともない、学習者に電子メディア教材があわせる機能『学習者適応機能』の改良を試みてきた。同時に、従来からの電子メディア教材との比較による評価分析をおこなってきた。その成果は以下のとおりである。1学習者適応機能の改良:これまでのソフトウエアをより高度な機種であるPower Machintosh上で使用可能にした。また学習者がマウスやキーボードから解放され、実技をおこないながらリアルタイムにコンピューターの教材にアクセスできる音声認識コントロールシステムの最新システムの試行を実験し、ならびに大容量を必要とする動画記録・再生システムとして新方式DVD(デジタルビデオディスク)の導入の検討もおこないその実現性を確かめた。2学習者適応機能の評価:かねてから研究者らが開発してきた、人間とメディアとの適合性を生理学的指標をつかって非拘束で計測し評価する手法を応用して実験をおこなった。実技学習時の学習者の脳波および心拍数をビデオ教材としいて非拘束で計測し評価する手法を応用して実験をおこなった。その結果、学習時の快適性の指標になりうると考えられる脳波α波の平均ポテンシャルが、ビデオ教材使用時にくらべて本教材使用時が大きく上回る例がみられ、本教材の学習者適応機能の有効性を示唆する結果を得た。また心拍数は実技学習時の運動にともなう影響と緊張にともなう影響がきわめて分離しにくいため、本教材の快適性を評価するには実験と解析の方法の改良を試みてきた。その中で心拍の間隔のゆらぎを指標にすることの検討にはいった。学習者が実技による身体的運動や音声の発生をともなう場合、快適性や緊張の生理的指標の計測手法について、さまざまな実験条件において有効性と限界を整理することができた。3実験レベルでの評価:実際の舞踊教育の現場で本教材を使用してその効果を評価した結果、学習効果はビデオ教材にくらべて総合的に高いことが確かめられた。
