近代化・都市化の過程において土着型社会から流動型社会への移行を遂げた現代日本社会においてはいまや地域間移動経験を持つ流動者層が地域社会においてかなりの比率を占める存在となっている。その「根無し草」的存在としての流動者層のライフコースと、マチづくりや超高齢社会問題等地域的対応を要する問題との関連性を検討する、といった問題意識に基づき、本研究においては、流動者層における移動の動機づけ、移動先の社会との関わり、その定着過程を中心に、量的・質的調査を行ない、いかにコミュニティモラールおよび定住志向が生じるか、また地域社会と流動者との相互連動関係はいかなるものか、を明らかにすることを試みた。具体的には、平成7年から8年にかけて、沖縄県在住本土出身者を対象とするアンケート調査およびライフヒストリーの聞き取り調査を実施した。その当初の段階において沖縄社会への移住の特殊性が浮き彫りとなったため、計画していた他の比較ではなく、沖縄社会の特質を鑑みた上で、ライフコースアプローチに基づいた、本土出身者の地域社会へ与えるイムパクトや本土出身者が沖縄社会から受けるイムパクトを中心とした分析を行った。結果、移動をめぐる様々なライフコースパターンが析出されるとともに、移動の時期、移動の動機づけ、人生における重要なイベント、定位家族・生殖家族の意向など、移動後の社会関係、生活観、定住志向に影響を及ぼす前提条件が提示された。今回の対象地域は那覇近郊都市圏に限定されており、移動の全貌解明とは程遠いため、今後さらに本島北部、中部、離島部在住の本土出身者、またUターン層、沖縄県出身者の他県在住者の量的・質的データを収集し、さらなる流動者層のライフコースパターンのバリエーションを提示すると同時に、本土間移動との共通項および異質性を明らかにする予定である。
