本研究においては、従来、資料的制限によって明らかにされてこなかった科学革命の教育思想に及ぼした影響についての検討を課題としているが、さしあたっては、イギリス革命(市民革命)期にあって、体系的な教育思想を提起した.ジョン・デュアリ.サミエル-ハードリブを中心とした.ハードリブ・サークルに焦点をあてることとした.その際、彼らと密接な協働をもったチェコの教育思想家ヤン・アモス・コメニウスとの教育思想上の役割と、デュアリ.コメニウスの両者が対談の機会をもとにもちながら、充分な意志疎通に達し得なかったルネ・デカルトとの関係が、本研究の具体的なテーマとして浮上してきた.一方、ハートリブの残した膨大な書簡・手稿のコレクション.ハートリブ文書は、近年の技術革新によりCD-ROM化され、これが入手できたのとともに、大量の史料を電子ファイル化するOCRソフトウェアも導入でき、これらの運用の基礎的ノウハウを修得することができた.今後は.収集史料の精力的な読み込みをすすめ.研究課題の焦点化を深めていきたいと考えている.
