まず、京都市左京区下鴨に居住する鴨脚家に、鴨脚家文書の研究・撮影・整理の申請をお願いし、快くその許可をえた。鴨脚家は下鴨神社の有力な社家であり、その所有文書も相当数にのぼるものと考えられる。次に、史料保管機関である京都市歴史資料館の協力で、鴨脚家文書の一部撮影・複写を行った。鴨脚家文書は貴重なものではあるが、まったくの未整理の状況にあり、その分類が大変な作業となった。そこで便法ではあるが、古記録類・軸物・絵図・文書・日記等に分類し、そのおおまかな整理をはかった。その後、鴨脚家文書の一部と日記の一部を複写・撮影し、業者を通じてマイクロフィルムの紙焼きを行い、その翻刻作業を継続して行なっている。また、同時に、鴨脚家文書のうち、古記録の写しと考えられるものを抜き出し、目録化を試みている。その中には、『西宮記』『中右記』『山槐記』等の平安期のものや、『親長卿記』『吉続記』等の中世期のものの写しがある。ことに『親長卿記』の写しは多く、自筆本の見つかっていない、本史料の校合に役立つ可能性がある。自家の記録類としては、当然のことながら鴨社の神事・年中行事関係の記録類が多い。日記も、もちろんそうであるが、特別に「神供備進之記」「行幸次第」「賀茂祭事」「明和元年冬祭之次第」等と題する記録書が存在し、これらの史料を翻刻することで、鴨社の祭礼等がより明らかになると考えられる。他の鴨社家の文書との比較を行なえば、元禄七年に賀茂祭再興が行われた時の事情が、より明確なものとなると考える。
