地方城下町を藩(大名)の性格から、御三家、親藩・譜代、外様に分け、それぞれ石高の多い順に整理した上で城下町の抽出を行った。本年度の研究においては、時間的制約から、御三家から和歌山、名古屋、水戸、外様から金沢、仙台、鹿児島をサンプルとして分析を行った。城下町の異界的空間構造であるが、まず、各城下町において、地形条件および方位の上でどのように城の位置が選定されたかを異界的な解釈を行った。その結果、いずれも四神思想や風水思想から城の位置選定に何らかの影響を受けていることがわかった。日本においては家相などを見る際、主にその方位を重要視する傾向があるが、城下町の場合方位より地形に規定されていることが多く見られた。また、城下町における社寺の配置をみると、寺町など寺社群を配置している場所は地形的な境界性(山・川など)の比較的弱い平野部に多く見られ、境界性を高めている。城下町が海に面している場合は、沿岸部に寺町が配置される場合が見られた。藩の庇護を受ける中心的社寺は鬼門や裏鬼門の位置に配置されることが多く見られた。さらに遊里や刑場などの準異界的要素は寺町などにより形成された異界的境界部の外縁部に隣接する形で配置されるとともに、街道が城下町に入ってくる場所と近接していることが多く見られた。城下町タイプ間の比較であるが、現在のところ異界的空間構造上大きな差異は見られず、親藩・譜代サンプルの分析と、御三家、外様サンプルの資料の充実により、精査することが必要である。これは今後の課題としたい。本研究を通じて、十分な量のサンプルが得られなかったことから、分析が不十分なところが存在するが、今後データの補充を行い日本都市計画学会などに発表していきたい。
