Indian Women's University and Japan Women's University -Some aspects of relationships between two countries-

This study is on how cultural and educational relationships have developed between India and Japan over the last hundred years.In this context, I explored how the Indian Women's University, which was established by D.K.Karve in Pune in Maharashtra State, India in 1916, was modeled after the Japan Women's University founded by Mr.Naruse Jinzo in Tokyo.I have promoted this study by focusing mainly on the following aspects, namely ; (1) the reason for and background of modeling after Japan Women's University, (2) the meaning of the establishment of such a Women's University in the history of modern Indian education, (3) the process of development of the University, and (4) the relationship between both universities. In this study I endeavored to analyze the general relationship between both countries, the national movements which developed largely after turn of the century, their ideals on women, and the educational practices of the founders of both universities, government educational policies on women's higher education, and their status under the law, etc.I believe I could make clear through this study the reality of the high cultural and educational connection between both countries in modern times, Japan's strong will to send her message to the world, the educational qualities in a real sense of both countries in modern times, and the task and usefulness of a study of such cultural and educational relationships in comparative education.
